The preserve is located at the junction of several biozones. It consists of 80-85% primary forest, the rest being secondary forest. It has largely remained untouched by logging and agriculture. Based on information gleaned from our neighbors at the Alberto Brenes Biological Reserve (a research station affiliated with the University of Costa Rica), we have reasons to believe that the Nectandra forest is also unusually rich in flora and fauna.
Our Garden is located 80 km NW of San Jose. From the Pan American Highway going north from San Jose, take the San Ramon Exit. Follow road signs through town toward La Fortuna-Arenal. Fifteen kilometers (look for cement distance marker on the right side of the highway) on the San Ramon-La Fortuna national highway, Nectandra Garden‘s main gate is visible on the left. Persea Garden is on the right.
